From hands-on craft to full project leadership
Wouter De Jager arrived in the UK from South Africa at 18, working as a carpenter on residential sites. What began as a practical trade soon became the foundation for a much broader career across the construction and property industries.
Within a few years, he had progressed into senior roles, including site manager, contract manager, and building surveyor. He also ran his own commercial interiors firm, gaining valuable insight into how each element of a project fits together.
“I’ve worked on all three sides of a project – as a contractor, a designer, and representing the client. That gives me a clear understanding of what makes a design actually work."

A balance of technical and creative skill
While building his career, Wouter moved to Maidenhead with his wife and started a family. He also found time to study, earning an Honours degree in Building Surveying from the University of Reading. That academic foundation helped formalise the knowledge he’d already gained on-site, combining practical experience with a detailed understanding of construction standards, planning requirements and design principles.
Leading with experience across every angle
Today, Wouter leads Maidenhead Planning with a clear focus: to help clients turn ideas into successful, buildable outcomes. His role spans architectural design, surveying, project management and property development. What sets him apart is a deep awareness of how real projects unfold – from initial designs to finished construction.
"I can design something that is realistic and buildable, aesthetically pleasing and functional, that adds value while meeting the budget."
That comprehensive experience means that designs are both creative and clear, while also aligning with the realities of construction. From home extensions and conversions to new builds and larger developments, Wouter’s approach brings together solid technical knowledge and a sharp eye for detail.
